3.1 X-Ray and shading modes for modeling
As you start handling 3D objects in Blender for modeling tasks, it will
become important to use a tool called X-Ray to make your selections
easier in those contexts. Why is X-Ray mode important for modeling?
The mode helps you edit certain types of objects occluded by existing
geometry.
For instance, if you get a simple Cube in your 3D Viewport and try to
select the bottom vertices using the B Key, you will notice that only the
visible vertices become selected. By using X-Ray mode, you can easily
select all vertices—even those behind existing faces.
To enable X-Ray Mode, use the button located at the 3D Viewport
header, on the left of the shading modes (Figure 3.1).
